PART 1 — The Curse Beneath the Crown
Prince Adrian had been raised to protect the kingdom of Eldoria. He was beloved by the people, respected by the knights, and trusted by his father, King Aldren. But on the night before his coronation, Adrian discovered a secret buried beneath the royal castle.
Deep beneath the throne room stood an ancient black mirror sealed behind seven iron doors. According to legend, it showed the face of the kingdom's greatest enemy.
When Adrian touched its surface, the mirror cracked.
A voice whispered from the darkness.
"Blood of the crown, heir of Eldoria… your kingdom will fall by your hand."
Adrian staggered backward as black veins appeared across his palm. A shadow wrapped around his arm, burning beneath his skin.
Then he saw the future.
He stood before Eldoria's burning capital, wearing a crown of black iron. Thousands of soldiers knelt before him. Behind his throne was a dragon made entirely of smoke and fire.
And at his feet lay his father's broken sword.
Adrian screamed and tore himself away from the mirror.
The next morning, he said nothing.
He was crowned prince before thousands of cheering citizens, but beneath his ceremonial robes, the black veins had spread to his shoulder.
Only Princess Elara, his younger sister, noticed something was wrong.
"You're hiding something," she whispered.
Before Adrian could answer, the royal bells began to ring.
Across the city, people screamed.
The kingdom's sacred statues had turned black.
Then the royal seer entered the throne room, pale with terror.
"The ancient curse has awakened," she said. "The prophecy has begun."
King Aldren demanded the truth.
The seer looked directly at Adrian.
"The crown prince is destined to become Eldoria's greatest enemy."
The room fell silent.
Adrian looked at his father.
For the first time in his life, the king looked at him not as a son—but as a threat.
PART 2 — The Enemy Who Refused to Fall
By sunset, Adrian was imprisoned in the highest tower.
His own knights had chained him with silver forged to suppress dark magic. Yet the curse continued spreading.
Then the kingdom was attacked.
An army of shadow creatures emerged from the northern forest and marched toward the capital. Their leader wore a black crown identical to the one Adrian had seen in his vision.
The king ordered every soldier to defend the city.
But Adrian realized the truth.
The army wasn't invading Eldoria.
It was coming for him.
That night, Elara secretly freed her brother.
"If the prophecy says you'll destroy the kingdom," she said, "then we have to find out why."
They descended beneath the castle and returned to the black mirror.
This time, Adrian saw something the prophecy had hidden.
The burning kingdom wasn't destroyed by him.
It was destroyed around him.
He was standing alone in the ruins, fighting the shadow army.
The black crown wasn't his crown.
It belonged to the creature controlling the invasion.
Then the mirror revealed the curse's origin.
Centuries earlier, Eldoria's first king had imprisoned an ancient shadow god beneath the castle. Before being sealed away, the god cursed the royal bloodline.
One heir would eventually become its vessel.
Adrian wasn't destined to become the kingdom's enemy.
He was destined to become the weapon the enemy would use.
The shadow god appeared behind him.
"Accept me," it whispered, "and you will never fear losing your kingdom again."
Adrian looked at Elara.
Then he looked at the black veins covering his body.
"If I become your vessel," he said, "I'll lose everything."
The shadow smiled.
"Exactly."
Adrian drew his father's broken sword.
"Then I'll lose myself before I lose my kingdom."
He drove the sword into the black mirror.
The curse exploded through the chamber.
For one terrible moment, Adrian became the monster from the prophecy.
Then Elara reached for his hand.
"You're my brother," she whispered. "Not a prophecy."
The darkness shattered.
At dawn, the shadow army disappeared.
Adrian survived, but the curse left a black scar across his heart.
King Aldren found him standing among the ruins beneath the castle.
The king slowly approached and placed the broken royal sword back into his son's hands.
"I believed the prophecy," he said.
"So did I," Adrian replied.
"And yet you fought it."
Adrian looked toward the rising sun.
"A prophecy can tell us what might happen. It cannot decide who we become."
Years later, Adrian became king.
His enemies called him the Cursed King.
His people called him the Shield of Eldoria.
But every night, Adrian remembered the black mirror—and the future it had shown him.
Because sometimes the greatest enemy of a kingdom isn't the monster inside the prophecy.
It's the belief that the prophecy cannot be changed.
