PART 1 - The Dragon's Choice
For generations, the Kingdom of Valdoria feared only one creature—the Dragon King.
Kings bowed before him.
Armies avoided his mountain.
And no one had seen him in over fifty years.
Most believed he had abandoned humanity forever.
Rowan certainly thought so.
The fourteen-year-old beggar spent his days searching for scraps of food outside the city gates. He owned nothing except a torn cloak and an endless supply of hope.
One cold morning, Rowan found an injured bird trapped beneath a wagon.
Despite his hunger, he shared his last piece of bread with it.
For several days he cared for the tiny creature until it recovered and flew away.
He never expected it to matter.
A week later, the kingdom gathered for the Ceremony of Selection.
Princes.
Knights.
Nobles.
All hoping to receive the Dragon King's blessing.
Nothing happened.
Hours passed.
Then suddenly, the sky darkened.
A massive shadow swept across the capital.
People gasped.
The Dragon King had returned.
His enormous black wings covered the sun.
The crowd immediately fell to their knees.
Even the king bowed his head.
Everyone expected the dragon to choose a prince.
A future ruler.
A legendary warrior.
Instead, the Dragon King walked past them all.
Past the royal family.
Past the nobles.
Past the generals.
Straight toward a terrified beggar boy standing at the back.
Rowan.
The entire kingdom watched in disbelief.
Then something impossible happened.
The Dragon King lowered his head.
And bowed.
A stunned silence filled the courtyard.
"My King," the dragon said.
The crowd erupted.
"What?!"
"That's impossible!"
Rowan stared at the giant beast.
"You must have the wrong person."
The Dragon King's eyes glowed with emotion.
"I have waited five hundred years for your return."
Suddenly, a golden symbol appeared on Rowan's hand.
The exact symbol carved on every ancient dragon monument in the kingdom.
Before anyone could speak, the ground began to shake.
A deafening roar echoed from beneath the royal palace.
The Dragon King's expression changed instantly.
For the first time...
He looked afraid.
And then he turned toward Rowan.
"Run."
PART 2-The Heir of Dragons
The second roar shook the entire kingdom.
Towers swayed.
Windows shattered.
Panic spread through the capital.
The Dragon King stepped protectively in front of Rowan.
"What's happening?" Rowan shouted.
The dragon's golden eyes remained fixed on the glowing cracks.
"The prison is breaking."
"The prison?"
The dragon lowered his head.
"Five hundred years ago, the First Dragon King sacrificed himself to seal the Shadow Dragon beneath this kingdom."
Rowan's heart raced.
"And that has something to do with me?"
"It has everything to do with you."
The glowing mark on Rowan's hand burned brighter.
Memories suddenly flashed through his mind.
Ancient battles.
Flying dragons.
A king riding through burning skies.
A final sacrifice.
He staggered backward.
"What is this?"
"The memories of your bloodline."
The Dragon King looked at him sadly.
"You are the last descendant of the First Dragon King."
The truth struck Rowan like lightning.
All his life he had been abandoned.
Forgotten.
Alone.
Yet somehow he belonged to the greatest bloodline in history.
Before he could speak, the earth exploded.
A massive creature burst from beneath the palace.
Dark scales.
Crimson eyes.
Wings large enough to cover the city.
The Shadow Dragon.
Citizens screamed.
Soldiers fled.
The king collapsed in terror.
The monster laughed.
"For five hundred years I waited."
Its voice echoed like a storm.
"And now the seal is broken."
The Dragon King launched into the sky.
A battle erupted above the kingdom.
Fire and shadow collided among the clouds.
Yet despite his power, the Dragon King was losing.
The Shadow Dragon had grown stronger during centuries of imprisonment.
Rowan watched helplessly.
"There must be something I can do."
The elderly historian suddenly appeared beside him.
"There is."
He handed Rowan an ancient silver pendant.
"The First Dragon King's heartstone."
Rowan stared at it.
"I don't understand."
"You don't need to."
The old man smiled.
"You only need courage."
Above them, the Dragon King crashed into a tower.
The crowd gasped.
The Shadow Dragon prepared a final attack.
Everything seemed lost.
Rowan looked at the pendant.
Then at the wounded dragon.
The dragon who had waited centuries for him.
The dragon who had never abandoned hope.
Without hesitation, Rowan ran toward the battlefield.
"ROWAN!" shouted the king.
But he didn't stop.
The pendant began glowing.
Brighter.
Brighter.
Until the entire kingdom was covered in golden light.
The Dragon King looked down.
A smile appeared on his face.
"He remembers."
The light surrounded Rowan completely.
Ancient power awakened.
Not power of destruction.
Power of unity.
Power of every dragon rider who had come before.
The Shadow Dragon roared and charged.
But thousands of golden dragon spirits suddenly appeared across the sky.
Legends.
Heroes.
Ancient guardians.
Together they formed a shining wall.
The Shadow Dragon slammed into it.
The impact shook the heavens.
Then the golden spirits pushed forward.
The darkness began to break.
Cracks spread across the monster's shadowy form.
"No!" it screamed.
"This is impossible!"
Rowan raised the heartstone.
"You were never meant to rule through fear."
The Dragon King landed beside him.
"And you will never threaten this world again."
Together, human and dragon unleashed one final burst of light.
The Shadow Dragon dissolved into countless sparks that vanished into the wind.
Silence followed.
Then cheers erupted throughout the kingdom.
The nightmare was over.
The people celebrated.
The king approached Rowan slowly.
For a moment, nobody spoke.
Then the king bowed.
Soon the nobles followed.
Then the soldiers.
Then the entire kingdom.
The same people who had once ignored the beggar boy now honored him.
But Rowan simply smiled.
Because titles no longer mattered.
The Dragon King stepped beside him.
"What will you do now, my king?"
Rowan looked toward the horizon.
Where dragons soared freely through golden clouds.
Then he laughed.
"I think I'd like to see the world."
The Dragon King lowered himself.
An invitation.
Rowan climbed onto his back.
The crowd watched in awe.
As dragon and rider rose into the sky.
Not as ruler and servant.
But as friends.
And for the first time in five hundred years, the kingdom entered an age of peace.
Because the Dragon King had finally found the one he had been waiting for all along.
