PART 1 — The Son Who Raised His Hand Against the King
The night Prince Caelan attacked his own father, every bell in the kingdom began to ring.
Not for war. Not for invasion.
For the death of a king.
Caelan stood beneath the black towers of the royal palace, his hands trembling as crimson magic crawled across his fingers. Before him, King Aldric sat upon the throne, surrounded by burning candles and frightened guards.
“Lower your sword,” the king commanded.
Caelan did not move.
For twenty years, he had worshiped his father as the strongest ruler in the realm. Aldric had defeated armies, crushed rebellions, and protected the kingdom from monsters beyond the northern mountains.
But three nights earlier, Caelan had discovered the truth.
His father had been sacrificing villagers to an ancient magical force beneath the castle.
Every month, seven people disappeared.
And every month, the kingdom's crops grew stronger, its enemies grew weaker, and the king grew younger.
Caelan had confronted him in secret.
His father had simply smiled.
“A king must choose who survives.”
That answer shattered something inside the prince.
So Caelan searched the forbidden archives beneath the palace and found an ancient spell known as the Bloodbind.
The spell was outlawed centuries ago because it could turn a person's own blood against them.
There was only one price.
The caster had to sacrifice someone they loved.
Caelan chose himself.
Now the forbidden spell burned beneath his skin.
“You taught me that a king protects his people,” Caelan whispered.
Aldric's expression hardened.
“And I taught you that mercy is a luxury kings cannot afford.”
Caelan raised his hand.
The throne room exploded with red light.
The guards collapsed. Windows shattered. Ancient stones cracked beneath their feet as invisible chains wrapped around the king's body.
Aldric screamed.
But then he laughed.
“You finally used it.”
Caelan froze.
“Used what?”
The king looked directly into his son's eyes.
“The magic I spent twenty years trying to keep buried inside you.”
PART 2 — The Secret Beneath the Throne
The crimson chains suddenly tightened around Aldric.
But instead of killing him, they pulled a shadow from his chest.
Caelan stared in horror.
A second figure emerged from the king's body—a twisted creature made of smoke, bone, and hundreds of whispering voices.
The palace shook.
“What is that?” Caelan gasped.
“The thing beneath the kingdom,” Aldric said.
The creature smiled.
Then Caelan understood.
The sacrifices had never been feeding his father.
They had been feeding the monster.
For centuries, the creature had slept beneath the castle, imprisoned by the royal bloodline. Every king was forced to make sacrifices to keep it asleep.
But Aldric had been trying to end the cycle.
He had secretly transferred the creature's hunger into himself, allowing it to consume his life instead of innocent villagers.
His unnatural youth had not been a reward.
It had been the curse keeping the monster contained.
Caelan's face went pale.
“Then why did you let me believe you were murdering them?”
Aldric looked at his son with exhausted eyes.
“Because if you knew the truth, you would try to save me.”
The creature suddenly lunged.
Its shadow swallowed the throne room.
Caelan's forbidden spell began consuming his own life.
He could feel his heartbeat slowing.
“There has to be another way!”
“There isn't,” Aldric whispered.
Then the king did something Caelan never expected.
He stepped between his son and the creature.
“You wanted to become a king tonight,” Aldric said. “Now learn what it means.”
With the last of his strength, Aldric grabbed Caelan's hand and redirected the Bloodbind.
The spell tore through both of them.
The monster screamed as the magic dragged it back beneath the castle.
Then everything went silent.
When Caelan opened his eyes, dawn was breaking.
His father was gone.
Only the king's crown remained on the shattered throne.
Caelan picked it up, tears falling onto the ancient gold.
He had entered the throne room believing his father was a monster.
He left knowing the truth was far worse.
His father had not been the monster.
He had been the prison.
And now that prison had become Caelan.
From beneath the castle came a faint whisper.
“Your Majesty…”
Caelan slowly looked toward the darkness.
The crown in his hands began to bleed.
And somewhere deep below the kingdom, something ancient opened its eyes.
