PART 1 — The Wizard Who Betrayed the Crown
The night Eldoria fell, its greatest defender opened the forbidden gates.
High above the kingdom, beneath a sky split by crimson lightning, Royal Wizard Caelan stood alone inside the Tower of Stars. His silver robes trembled in the wind as thousands of magical runes burned around him.
For three hundred years, the Heart of Eldoria had protected the kingdom. Hidden beneath the royal palace, the ancient crystal supplied every spell, every enchanted shield, and every magical weapon that kept invaders beyond the mountain walls.
And now Caelan was draining it.
One by one, the glowing runes vanished from the walls.
Outside, the kingdom's protective barrier flickered.
Caelan closed his eyes as the sound of war horns echoed across the valley.
“Forgive me,” he whispered.
Then he pressed his hand against the crystal.
A river of golden magic exploded from the Heart and surged into the night.
Far beyond Eldoria’s borders, thousands of enemy soldiers suddenly watched their dead weapons awaken. Broken swords began to glow. Ancient siege machines roared to life. Even the black armor of the invading army filled with blue fire.
The enemy had received Eldoria’s magic.
By dawn, the kingdom’s defenses were gone.
King Aldric confronted Caelan in the throne room.
“You gave them our magic,” the king said, his voice barely more than a whisper.
Caelan did not deny it.
“Yes.”
The king drew his sword.
“You betrayed every man, woman, and child in this kingdom.”
Caelan looked toward the palace windows. Beyond them, enemy armies covered the plains like an endless black ocean.
“I betrayed the crown,” he said quietly. “Not the kingdom.”
Before Aldric could answer, the palace shook.
The enemy had arrived.
Among the fleeing servants was Princess Elara, the king’s sixteen-year-old daughter. She had always trusted Caelan more than anyone. He had taught her the first spell she ever learned.
Now she watched soldiers storm through the palace gates.
“Why would you do this?” she demanded, tears filling her eyes.
Caelan stepped closer.
“Because the magic was never meant to protect Eldoria.”
Elara froze.
“Then what was it meant to protect?”
Caelan looked toward the underground chambers.
“You.”
Suddenly, the Heart of Eldoria cracked.
A sound like a thousand screaming voices filled the palace.
And from beneath the kingdom came something ancient—something that had been sleeping for centuries.
PART 2 — The Secret Beneath the Kingdom
The palace floor split apart.
Darkness erupted from the crack, swallowing stone, soldiers, and magical fire. The enemy army outside stopped advancing as a colossal shadow rose beneath Eldoria.
King Aldric stared in horror.
“What is that?”
Caelan finally revealed the truth.
“The first king of Eldoria did not discover the Heart.”
He pointed toward the shattered crystal.
“He imprisoned something inside it.”
Centuries ago, an ancient creature called the Hollow King had nearly destroyed the world. It could consume magic itself, leaving entire kingdoms powerless. The founders of Eldoria had trapped it beneath the palace and built the Heart around its prison.
But the prison was weakening.
Every year, the creature consumed more of Eldoria’s magic.
Caelan had discovered the truth years earlier.
He knew that if Eldoria kept the magic, the Hollow King would eventually awaken with enough power to destroy the entire world.
So Caelan had made an impossible choice.
He secretly transferred Eldoria’s magic to the enemy.
Not to save the enemy.
To empty the prison.
Now the Hollow King rose—but its prison was nearly powerless.
“You used an entire army as bait,” Elara whispered.
“I used their greed,” Caelan replied. “They wanted our magic. They took it without asking what was inside.”
The Hollow King emerged from the ruins, towering above the palace like a living storm.
The enemy soldiers raised their enchanted weapons.
Thousands of spells struck the creature at once.
For a moment, the monster screamed.
Then it began consuming their magic.
Caelan smiled sadly.
“Now.”
Elara suddenly understood.
The magic Caelan had given the enemy was still connected to the Heart.
She raised both hands.
“Together!” she shouted.
Every enchanted weapon in the valley turned toward the Hollow King.
The stolen magic ripped itself from the enemy army and returned to the Heart in one enormous wave.
The creature shrieked as the ancient prison reformed around it.
With a final flash of golden light, the Hollow King vanished beneath the earth.
Silence fell.
When the dust cleared, Eldoria still stood.
But King Aldric lowered his sword.
He looked at Caelan for a long moment.
“You could have told me.”
Caelan nodded.
“If I had, you would have ordered me to protect the kingdom.”
The king sighed.
“And you decided the world was more important than my kingdom.”
“No,” Caelan said, looking at Elara. “I decided your daughter deserved a world to inherit.”
Years later, Princess Elara became queen.
She rebuilt Eldoria without relying on the Heart’s power. And beneath the new palace, she sealed the ancient prison with a single inscription:
Never confuse loyalty to a crown with loyalty to its people.
As for Caelan, he disappeared before sunrise.
Some say he became a wandering wizard.
Others say he still watches Eldoria from the mountains.
But whenever the kingdom faces danger, a silver light appears above the towers.
And Queen Elara always smiles.
Because she knows the truth.
The wizard everyone called a traitor was the man who saved them all.
