The Royal Wizard Gave the Enemy the Kingdom’s Magic—But No One Knew Why

PART 1 — The Wizard Who Betrayed the Crown

On the night the kingdom of Eldoria was supposed to be invincible, its greatest wizard opened the forbidden vault beneath the royal palace.

His name was Aldren Vale, the Royal Wizard, and for thirty years, he had protected Eldoria with the Heart of Aether—the ancient source of every magical spell within the kingdom.

No enemy army had ever crossed Eldoria’s borders.

No dragon had ever burned its cities.

And no king had ever dared question Aldren’s loyalty.

Until the blood moon rose.

Deep beneath the palace, Aldren placed his trembling hand against the crystal heart. Golden magic flooded through his fingers, filling the chamber with ancient whispers.

Then he did the unthinkable.

He removed the Heart of Aether from its pedestal.

The entire kingdom shuddered.

Far beyond the northern mountains, an army waited beneath black banners. Their commander, Lord Kael, had spent fifteen years trying to conquer Eldoria and failing every time.

But that night, a single hooded figure appeared before him.

Aldren.

The Royal Wizard dropped the crystal into Kael’s hands.

“Take it,” Aldren whispered.

Kael stared at him in disbelief. “You’re giving us Eldoria’s magic?”

“I am giving you something far more important.”

Before Kael could ask what he meant, Aldren turned away.

By sunrise, the kingdom’s magical barriers had vanished.

Its enchanted towers went dark.

The royal guards discovered that their weapons had become ordinary steel.

Panic spread through the streets as Kael’s army marched toward the capital.

The king ordered Aldren arrested immediately.

But when soldiers stormed the wizard’s tower, they found only a single message carved into the stone.

“When the crown falls, do not save it.”

Princess Elara refused to believe it.

She had grown up under Aldren’s protection. He had taught her magic, saved her life, and once stood between her and a dragon without hesitation.

“He would never betray us,” she said.

Then she discovered something hidden beneath his desk.

A map.

It showed every magical fortress in Eldoria.

Every secret passage.

Every weakness in the kingdom’s defenses.

And beside the final fortress, Aldren had written four words.

“The truth sleeps beneath.”

PART 2 — The Secret Beneath the Throne

Elara followed the map beneath the royal palace while enemy soldiers flooded the streets above.

Behind the throne, she discovered a staircase that descended into darkness.

At the bottom stood Aldren.

But he was no longer wearing his royal robes.

He looked exhausted, older, almost broken.

“You gave them our magic,” Elara whispered.

Aldren nodded.

“Why?”

He pointed toward the stone floor.

There, beneath the palace, enormous golden chains surrounded something ancient.

A creature.

Its eyes opened.

The entire chamber shook.

“The Heart of Aether was never created to protect Eldoria,” Aldren said. “It was created to imprison that thing.”

Elara stared in horror.

For centuries, the kings had told the people that their magic was a divine blessing.

It was a lie.

The kingdom had been feeding on the creature’s power.

Every spell. Every magical weapon. Every enchanted wall.

And every generation, the prison grew weaker.

“The enemy invasion is not the danger,” Aldren said. “The magic itself is.”

Elara finally understood.

Aldren had not betrayed the kingdom.

He had betrayed the crown.

He gave the enemy the Heart of Aether because only someone outside the royal bloodline could destroy it.

But Kael had already used the crystal.

Across the kingdom, magical energy began pouring into the ancient creature.

The chains started breaking.

“You planned this?” Elara asked.

“I planned to end it,” Aldren replied. “But I needed the enemy to carry the magic far enough from the palace.”

Suddenly, the chamber exploded with golden light.

Kael appeared at the top of the stairs, holding the Heart of Aether.

“You deceived me,” he said.

Aldren smiled sadly.

“No. I trusted you to hate this kingdom enough to destroy its magic.”

Kael raised the crystal.

Then he hesitated.

He looked at the terrified princess.

Slowly, he lowered his weapon.

“Tell me how to end it.”

Together, the three entered the chamber.

Aldren broke the final seal.

The creature roared, and every magical light in Eldoria vanished.

For one terrifying moment, the kingdom became completely powerless.

Then the creature dissolved into thousands of glowing fragments that drifted into the sky like stars.

When dawn came, the kingdom was still standing.

Its magic was gone.

Its ancient curse was gone too.

Kingdoms had been built on the lie that magic made them powerful.

But Elara finally understood what Aldren had sacrificed to teach them.

True power was not the ability to control magic.

It was the courage to live without it.

Years later, people still called Aldren the greatest traitor in Eldoria’s history.

Elara never corrected them.

Because every night, she looked toward the stars and remembered the wizard who gave the enemy their kingdom’s magic...

...so that no one would ever have to pay for it again.
